Every client mountpoint is considered to be a new entity to the server (new UUID in the export) even if they share the same NID. So it should be possible for the upgraded client to connect to the server, and the new export would not be subject to the version-based banishment, and be allowed to connect to the target and complete the mount. The old export (with old version) might stick around for some time, until it is eventually evicted, and the same client might be banned multiple times if it is unmounting/remounting repeatedly.
