We should enable data compression on ZFS MDT filesystems by default in mkfs.lustre for new MDTs. There is already ZFS compression for metadata enabled at all times, but with DoM we will also store data on the MDT. Since the MDT will typically also be located on flash storage, from a cost and performance perspective it makes sense to compress the data that is stored there. |

It would be good to verify that this does not affect performance on the MDT significantly. |

Andreas, is this still worth to implement or outdated? |

This is probably something that should be decided by the admin. Unlike ldiskfs, it is possible to change ZFS configuration after installation, so enabling compression can be done at any time. |
