one problem with the script attached is that it doesn't correct checksum in gdp.
and I guess it won't work very well for really large devices - it makes sense to rewrite this functionality using libext2fs

I think this functionality could also be implemented with LU-16155, either by keeping existing block dumps, or generating synthetic ones as needed.
