This bug can be reproduced with 1.8.5 on debian unstable

 Description

lustre currently fails to build using binutils-gold or by simply adding --no-add-needed to the linker flags.
To fix this is quite important for debian, as this will be the default behaviour of ld for the next release (wheezy).

A proposed patch for 1.8.5 is added to this bugreport (and needs to be ported to 2.x) (which I can do after having a look on review.whamcloud.com to see how this will work).

Greetings
Patrick
