For testing purpose, we want to downgrade our lustre environment to version 1.8.7 starting from 1.8.9. Is this operation supported and without risks?

Could you please clarify - was this cluster initially installed as 1.8.7-wc1 then upgraded to 1.8.9-wc1, or was it a fresh install of 1.8.9-wc1?

This should work ok in theory but we only explicitly tested upgrading/downgrading from/to 1.8.8-wc1 during 1.8.9-wc1 release testing. We would certainly help you with any problems that you ran into during such a downgrade. Having said that, why would you want to do such a downgrade? Have you run into issues on 1.8.9-wc1?

Hi,
we must upgrade Lustre in production environment from 1.8.7wc1 to 1.8.9wc1, but the customer asks for a rollback plain if something not works. Is there an official procedure to downgrade ?

There should be no issues during a downgrade, as you are moving only two minor releases. There are no changes to the Lustre configuration, only versions of the RPMs change. For downgrade, you would simply re-install the previous set of RPMS. Also, there are no issues in this case with a mixed environment, so you can do a rolling upgrade or a rolling downgrade. The cluster and clients should work just fine with any mix of 1.8.7-wc1 and 1.8.9-wc1.
