all mods for kernel versions > 3.16 should be collected here

Already seen at least one kernel API change that will need some fixing. The list primitive hlist_add_after() is gone. A similar but not identical new primitive hlist_add_behind() exists instead. We will probably need some autoconf support to adapt to the difference. I note that in the upstream lustre client code in the 3.17 staging drivers sources instances of using hlist_add_after() have been replaced with hlist_add_behind().

Lots of big changes. Some tcp socket changes in libcfs. Also the directIO api has changed which impacts llite. I was looking at it before but have been busy working on other parts of the code (LU-5275 and LU-3963).

We should link this to LU-4416.

I have the hlist support completed with patch http://review.whamcloud.com/#/c/14624. Sorry I didn't include on the review. Will change that. Are you testing with newer kernels? If that is the case I have many more patches coming.

I haven't seen that you already are working on a bunch of patches. I will abandon the patch.
Yes, I started testing/patching with Debian Jessie Kernel 3.16.7-ckt9-3~deb8u1, and would be happy
to test your patches. We are currently setting up a new cluster with Jessie client which will talk
to Debian Wheezy 3.2 SPL/ZFS OSS/MDS servers.

I'm currently working on Ubuntu 15 (3.19 kernel) support. Also I'm testing against greg's upstream staging tree. I will include you in those patches as well.
