Hi, Mike, Looks like we need update osimage to rhel6.1 or just update gcc? Thanks for your help.

This is a problem in the build chain, not the build environment.

In older EL6 kernels, there is a default crypto/signature/key.h shipped in the vanilla tarball. In the EL6.1 kernels, this file has been stripped out.

In kernel.spec, we have this block:

%if %{signmodules}
...
gcc -o scripts/bin2c scripts/bin2c.c
scripts/bin2c ksign_def_public_key __initdata <extract.pub >crypto/signature/key.h
%endif

However, in lbuild, we have this:

   sed -i -e 's/^\(%define signmodules \).*/\10/' \

So we're explicitly disabling module signing, therefore the header is never generated, and builds fail. I'm not sure what the correct solution is, but this shows that it's not a problem with the build node OS.

Well, it's not specific to rhel6 but is inherited by rhel6 from the generic rhel spec patching code and has lineage back to the initial building of the rhel5 kernel from the vendor's SRPM, all done in commit 0fdc61b8eb9c42939b086f221d4bdb9d0a6c9caf.

Since I have a policy of only making the most minimal modifications to the upstream vendor's code when doing these sorts of things I can only assume that at the time, kernel module signing was not possible or was causing problems.
