In nodemap_storage.c we have several cases of the following which will GPF if dt_trans_create() fails:

        th = dt_trans_create(env, dev);

        if (IS_ERR(th))
                GOTO(out, rc = PTR_ERR(th));

        /* ... */
out:
        dt_trans_stop(env, dev, th);
