Do you know with which Lustre version it was first formatted? The files in question all date from Nov 2013, which puts it days after 2.5 released, or more likely some 2.4.x release. The MDT inode FID sequence numbers are very large (not that this is a problem in itself, the sequence numbers are 64-bit values and you've used only 600M of them, but just a confirmation of my guess).</p> <p>The "<tt>trusted.fid</tt>" xattr on the OSTs that stores a backpointer with the FID of the MDT inode that is using the object has grown over time, as file layouts became more complex (e.g. <tt>stripe_size</tt>, <tt>stripe_count</tt>, <tt>component_&lt;start,end&gt;</tt>, <tt>component_id</tt> for PFL layouts). The <tt>trusted.fid</tt> xattrs for the OST objects look to be valid from the debugfs stat output, and are correctly referencing the parent FID and storing the stripe count.</p> <p>The OI Scrub code should upgrade old pre-2.5 <tt>trusted.fid</tt> to store the parent FID into the <tt>trusted.lma</tt> xattr, so that it would be consistent between MDTs and OSTs, but it seems like OI Scrub was never run on some of the OSTs since 2.5 was released? Can you please capture Lustre kernel debug logs from an OSS with <tt>lctl set_param debug=-1</tt> set while accessing some of these files. I'd like to see where the <tt>-22 = -EINVAL</tt> error is coming from, so that we can understand what needs to be fixed.</p> <p>As for solving this, one option would be to downgrade the MDS and OSS temporarily to 2.7.x and rsync the files in this directory to new files, so that they will have new-format xattrs, and then delete the old files. The other option is to temporarily quarantine these files until we can patch the OST so that the objects are accessible, and separately to make an OI Scrub/LFSCK patch to repair the objects. You might consider to downgrade to 2.7.x for a short time in a maintenance window to copy the files and then return to 2.10.x again. If any files have been created with 2.10 features (e.g. PFL composite layouts) then those files will not be accessible under 2.7.x, so it should be OK to downgrade for a short time but I wouldn't recommend it for an extended uptime given that you have been running 2.10.x for some time already. Also, given that there are still some latent problems in the filesystem the fewer files that are accessed/modified while running 2.7.x the better.</p> <p>What about running with the patch for a short time (maintenance window).
