kernel. This is a problem in the build chain, not the build environment. In older EL6 kernels, there is a default crypto/signature/key.h shipped in the vanilla tarball. In the EL6.1 kernels, this file has been stripped out. Since I have a policy of only making the most minimal modifications to the upstream vendor's code when doing these sorts of things I can only assume that at the time, kernel module signing was not possible or was causing problems.
