&lt;p&gt;Elsewhere I have seen &quot;brw&quot; referred to as &quot;bulk read write&quot; as opposed to &quot;block read write&quot; - I don&apos;t know the history, but presumably after going from blocks (ext3) to extents (ext4) this subtle change was introduced.  If, in fact, this file is now called &quot;bulk read write&quot;, this and any other references to &quot;block&quot; should be updated.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
