It will be very useful if we can do that for some obvious reasons:

• Better policy engine - it can just iterate the objects on the MDTs to make a decision which files should be moved
• Rebalance OSTs - by iterating objects on fully occupied OSTs, it can figure out which large objects should be migrated, especially with this proposed Stripe Replacement feature 

The work seems straightforward. I will burn some tokens and get some patches.
