      Notes from Oleg:
      Sincewe know the directory size at readdir time, we can estimate if we actually need a large buffer for readdir or not. This is not certain, but a good guess. additionally we can check mtime and if it's very recent, we might want to allow a slightly bigger buffer still to accounf for the possible directory growth"
