          Demitry Eremin was kind enough to repair an oversight in my original patch. I entirely approve of his improvements. With his changes, I think change 8426 is ready for full review.

          I haven't tested it too extensively yet, and I'm heading out for the long Thanksgiving weekend. I wanted to get it pushed an starting autobuild and autotest before I left.
